Curriculum - MATHEMATICS

At St Paul's we believe that learning mathematics creates opportunities for and enriches the lives of all Australians.

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure and change. It provides a unique and powerful way of viewing the world and a language for abstract ideas.

The Australian Curriculum: Mathematics provides students with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability. It developes the numeracy capabilities that all students need in their personal, work and civic lives.

Emerging technologies, the global market place and the demands of informed democratic decision-making call for numeracy capabilities that extend beyond computational competence and require the ability to apply mathematics creatively and efficiently to solve problems, process information and to engage actively as intelligent, adaptive and critical citizens.  In addition, Mathematics provides and elegant and powerful way of reasoning that can be personally satisfying and empowering.
